Our story

Where care meets clarity

Yenlio was built in a real setting, by someone who has spent fifteen years caring for other people's children. This is the story of the name — and the belief behind it.

The meaning behind the name

A name we built on purpose

Yenlio is a coined word — but not an empty one. Every part of it was chosen.

Old English · Japanese origin

To yearn — to care deeply

A quiet, heartfelt desire to do something well. In Old English, to have a yen for something is to long for it. In Japanese, 円 (en / yen) means circle, harmony and connection — the bond between a child, their family and the person who cares for them.

A modern platform suffix

The feeling, turned into a platform

The suffix that carries the feeling into software. Like Famly, Calendly or Shopify, it reads as a modern, purposeful tool — not just an idea, but something that quietly works in the background of a busy day.

A coined word — fully owned

Invented, meaningful, ours

A completely invented word built from meaningful roots. No existing product, no conflicting trademark — the name belongs entirely to Nursery Room. Warm, soft, and easy for parents and staff to say.

The English layer

Yen — a quiet, heartfelt desire to do something well. Every parent and practitioner understands that feeling without needing it explained. It's the reason Sevjen went into childminding in the first place.

The Japanese layer

円 (en / yen) — circle, harmony and connection. A bonus meaning that adds depth, and one that works visually too: a circle is one of the strongest, calmest shapes a mark can take.

The mark

One circle, three people

The logo is the name made visible — the circle of 円, the Y of Yenlio, and the people held at the centre of everything.

The origin story — in Sevjen's words

Built from a real setting, for every setting

The problem

Sevjen Ali has been a childminder for fifteen years. She loves the children. She loves the families. What she does not love is spending her evenings manually calculating invoices, cross-referencing attendance records and formatting spreadsheets for QuickBooks — time that should be spent on what matters. Every childminder and nursery owner she knows has the same problem.

The insight

The best practitioners share one quality: a deep, genuine care — a yen — for the children and families they serve. But the tools available to them were too complex, too expensive, or too generic. None of them understood the specific way a UK setting actually works: the government funding, the wrap-around school runs, the EYFS journey, the QuickBooks invoicing. Sevjen decided to build one that did.

The name

Yenlio comes from that quiet, heartfelt desire to do right by the children and families in your care — the feeling every great early-years educator carries with them. The -lio turns that feeling into a platform: something that channels the care you already have and removes everything that gets in the way of it. Yenlio exists so the people who care the most can spend more time doing exactly that.

Our promise

More time for what matters most

Yenlio exists so the people who care the most can spend more time doing exactly that. Come and see it in your own setting.
